Dr Georgios Kontos FRCOphth, FEBO, CertLRS, MBA

Georgios Kontos is an ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in glaucoma, cornea, cataract, anterior segment, and refractive surgery.

 

He graduated from the University of Crete School of Medicine and completed elective placements in ophthalmology at Boston Medical Center and Vancouver General Hospital, followed by final-year clinical training at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. He subsequently moved to the United Kingdom, where he completed an MSc in Biology of Vision at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.

 

He undertook ophthalmology training posts across England, Scotland, and Wales before obtaining a National Training Number in the Oxford Deanery. He completed UK Ophthalmology Specialty Training and was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).

 

Alongside his clinical training, he completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at Cardiff University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery at Ulster University, and an MBA at Warwick Business School.

 

He completed fellowship training in glaucoma, cornea, cataract, and anterior segment surgery at the Oxford Eye Hospital, followed by further fellowship training in glaucoma and cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at the University of British Columbia.

 

His clinical interests include medical and surgical glaucoma, corneal disease and transplantation, refractive surgery, and cataract surgery. He has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and is actively involved in teaching and surgical training.

  • Temporal artery biopsy (for the diagnosis of giant cell arteritis)

  • Ophthalmic lasers (retinal PRP, focal, retinopexy, SLT, YAG PC)

  • Phototherapeutic Keratectomy (PTK)
